Caravan Parks have been in the family for a long time. Robbie Atkinson leased the Exmouth Caravan Park from the shire in the mid 70s. He ran this for 21 years and he also acquired Yardie Homestead in 1987. Yardie Caravan Park took several years to establish as the entire infrastructure had to be build from the ground up. It was a hard task but his goal was to provide affordable accommodation on the west coast of Exmouth for everyone to enjoy, and this was achieved in the early 90s. Robbie was planning semi-retirement by relaxing at the homestead – having moved on from the Exmouth Caravan Park. But as fate would have it the Lighthouse Caravan Park was put up for sale and a little too tempting for Robbie. So in the mid 90s he began his new retirement project of building on the foundations of the Lighthouse Caravan Park.
The next dozen years or so would see him through, floods, fires, small tsunamis and the devastation caused by Cyclone Vance in 1999. In 2007 Robbie finally decided that it was time to take a back seat and handed the reins over to his son-in-law Darren and daughter Tash. Darren and Tash are now pursuing other lifestyle choices and Robbie is becoming more involved with the Park. The new Park manager is Ray Leonard.
Ray and Robbie welcome you to the Lighthouse Caravan Park hoping you get a glimpse of what life is like living under the lighthouse, surrounded by the natural beauty of the bush with the Ningaloo Reef at your doorstep. It is a unique location that everyone who visits seems to fall in love with and we hope you will too.
